Home » Wild Edrics Way / Mortimer Trail WILD EDRICS WAY- A MAGNIFICENT SHROPSHIRE LINEAR FOOTPATH A truly magnificent 42 mile footpath, created in memory of Wild Edric, one of Shropshires oldest hero figures. His exploits are well chronicled, and he was called Silvaticus - broadly translated as savage, and his wild nickname seems to be derived from this. He lived in the time of William the Conqueror and was Lord of the Manor at Lydbury North, close to Bishops Castle. He seems to have been a bit of a rebel, constantly falling out with the king, yet sometimes siding with the king against Welsh princes. Whatever the myth and legend, the trail in his name is fantastic, starting near Church Stretton, and eventually after traversing both the LongMynd and the Stiperstones, skirting Bishops Castle and Offas Dyke, before passing Clun and Craven Arms on the way to Ludlow, surely Englands finest small market town. We stay at superior guest house accommodation for five nights, with five days walking, transport being used to ferry you to the walk start each day. DATES
