The superb market towns in the Derbyshire Dales

In the Derbyshire Dales , there are fine market towns - little gems tucked away in these hills, still serving their local communities. They are all different too, and this holiday visits four of them after we have spent the morning strolling around this beautiful countryside.

Bakewell - home of the Bakewell Pudding - note not Bakewell Tart

On the Derbyshire Wye, it's bustling centre is a joy and on Mondays it's market flourishes. River walks, lovely cafes and historic church will certainly please.

Ashbourne - a gem of a town, very much still a working town that welcomes tourists, as against the other way round. Good shops, a super market square, and home of the Ashbourne Gingerbread.

Lofty Buxton - famous as a spa, with water at it's heart. Its Georgian facades will surprise, it has a lovely park and gardens, and the Pavilion is a must to see.

Matlock and Matlock Bath - along side the River Derwent, with a narrow gorge that reminds you of the limestone gorges of Slovenia. Bustling shops - and in the heart of the World Heritage site of the Derwent Valley Mills.

Villages too - such as Tissington, Eyam - the plaque village - Parwich and the stone villages of Bonsall, Winster and Youlgrave are all on our routes through Derbyshire's magnificent dales.

Getting to know new friends is a vital part of our Strollers programme. Your guides will make sure we all gel together as a group. They are truly knowledgeable about the countryside, it’s history and social culture. We will tell you stories - myths and actual, relating to this magical land.

The holiday is four nights and three days, and we stay at Charles Cotton Hotel in the lovely Dovedale village of Hartington. We have a no single supplement policy, and we can be very flexible - If you can only arrange a couple of nights we can fit you in.

We are a very friendly walking company - our aim is to show off Shropshire, and to make sure you have a great time when you are here.

Accommodation and meals

Accommodation is  en suite rooms. All hotels have a bar, and lounge You can see the hotel accommodation by visiting http://www.charlescotton.co.uk  We have lunch at one of Derbyshire's  lovely country pubs, or cafes,  and dinner is three course at the hotel.
