Shropshire's Superb Market Towns
Shropshire has fine market towns - little gems tucked away in these hills, still serving their local communities. They are all different too, and this holiday visits four of them after we have spent the morning strolling around this beautiful countryside.
Much Wenlock, with it’s quaint streets and Abbey, just above the River Severn is a throwback to another age - we go on a town tour to explore the history, learn about it’s famous son’s and daughter’s.
Church Stretton, tucked just under the LongMynd, is a fine town, with good cafes, individual shops and walking on it’s doorstep.
Historic and food capital of the Marches is Ludlow - laid out as a Norman town, but with a great Georgian influence. The Castle, St Laurence’s church, and narrow streets are simply heaven.
Bishops Castle, a real border market town, nestles under the Mid Wales hills, and often has a festival, fete or carnival going on. It’s long street is home to shops which are a throw back to a past age.
Clun, with it’s river and castle is a quiet, charming place in rolling hillside country - a town stroll is indeed a surprise, with tucked away jewels of past glories.Montgomery - just in Wales, but a great little town, steeped in history, with it’s castle on it’s hill overlooking proceedings
Getting to know new friends is a vital part of our Strollers programme. Your guides will make sure we all gel together as a group. They are truly knowledgeable about the countryside, it’s history and social culture. We will tell you stories - myths and actual, about this fascinating land between England and Wales.
The holiday is four nights and three days, and we stay at The Long Mynd Hotel. We have a no single supplement policy, and we can be very flexible - If you can only arrange a couple of nights we can fit you in.
We are a very friendly walking company - our aim is to show off Shropshire, and to make sure you have a great time when you are here.
