La Gomera
La Gomera, just off Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, is a walkers delight. Just an hour's journey from Tenerife by fast ferry, it is a superb walking destination for the discerning walker. The island measures 25 miles by 25 miles, yet it has varied walking routes. The south of the island - the sunniest - has deep barranco's - ravines, which stretch a long way into the island's heart. The coast has many great walks, and the more rugged north is a delight, with its steep sided valleys and ridge walks. In the centre of the island is a National Park, a forest, in the clouds, great walking amongst rare trees and tropical plant life. The walking paths on La Gomera are superb, well maintained, as walking is a key tourism product.
Garonjay is the highest peak, with superb views over Mount Teide on Tenerife.
