Superb guided walking, good company and an excellent hotel - all make this a "must do" holiday. Our walking in Majorca takes us through an undiscovered landscape, a rural idlyll, a land of orange and lemon groves, where twisted and knarled olive trees are on every corner.
Majorca offers a mountain landscape that sweeps down to the sea, offering us lovely coastal walking as well as the high tops. Its pretty, unspoilt villages compliment the walking we do, and its deep valleys are magnificent to walk up and down.
We stay in Port Soller, a lovely old port with cafes and bars on the sea front. The bay of Port Soller - a curved horshoe is magical, and at night we see the setting sun disappear over the horizon in front of the hotel. Bathing from the doorstep of the hotel, and a long promenade which extends a mile round the bay. Excellent walking from the door of the hotel.
Great reasons to join us
- meet new friends in a relaxed walking and social atmosphere
- beautiful countryside to walk through and enjoy
- super value for money
- professional, friendly walk leaders who are passionate and knowledeable about this area
- hotel right on the beach front - swimming from the door
- flights from many UK airports and its only 2.25 hours away
In Port Soller we use the Hotel Marina Soller, right on the bay front. All the facilities you need, comfortable rooms, good food. Swimming pool, leisure facilities.
We sometimes are allocated the Mini Marina - an annex to the hotel, some 30 metres away from the front door.
Breakfast is taken in the hotel’s dining room or on the outside terrace, by the bay. Plenty of choice, buffet style. Dinner - three courses from a table d'hôte menu that changes each day. The starters are filling, and main courses come with vegetables grown on the island. We generally eat inside during the time we are on the island, but if it’s a warm evening then outside eating is highly recommended. We stay half board, and dinner is always a feature of our holidays - time to socialize, with good food and wine to swap stories about the day’s walking.
The hotel is, located just across from the beach.and is fully air conditioned and has a swimming pool and leisure centre.
Port Soller is a lovely old port, but good shops and cafes abound. It is also the terminus of the famous Soller to Port Soller tram..
There is a single supplement of £196 per seven nights on this holiday.- Note - you will be allocated a twin room for sole occupancy- there are no single rooms available at Hotel Marina
Sea View suites
These are available at an additional premium. Please ask.
Your holiday programme
A typical walking day
We leave at 9.15am, travel by minibus or loacal taxi to walk start - generally each walk lasts for five and half hours - maybe with a coffee or orange jiuce stop in the country, lunch is nornally packed from the local supermarket - lovely baguettes. Walking is moderate with some steeper sections, but we won't rush these. The Majorcan country side is superb - high mountains all around but lovely river valleys, a coast line that enchantes and splendid villages to pass trough, and it is always a pleasure to look at the lovely wild flowers and village floral displays.
Walking is varied and some of the routes are shown here.
- Cala Tuent - classic varied walk to idyllic Cala Tuent cove
- Valldemossa - The Arch Duc path - lovely walk along ancient way marked routes and mule tracks
- Deia - Soller - on the GR221 national route
- Castell de Alaro - to the Castell, perched on one of the “Molar Mountains”, once a Moorish stronghold, beautiful view
- Tossals - Lloseta - starting under Puig Major, at the Cuber reservoir, ascend the Pigeons Pass, and down to Almendra and Loseta.
- Binifaldo - Menut - Lluch Monastery - starting at Coll de Sabatia, reaching Coll des Palat, with superb views of Massanella, the second highest peak, finishing at the historic Lluch Monastery
- Cuber -Es Barranc - Soller Climbing the majestic L'Ofre peak, then descending the Barranc on an ancient Pilgrims Way into Soller Town centre.
- Ses Barques viewing point - Fornalutz- Soller- hotel- leaving the lovely viewpoint and taking in the idyllic village of Fornalutz and Soller Old Town
We transport you to the walk start each day and also to the various historical sites we visit. The travel through these magnificent mountains is a big feature of our holiday.
Is typically Mediterranean, mild winters and hot summers - too hot for walking. We organize our holidays in March/April- lovely spring flowers and a green paradise, and October, when it is still lovely and warm, ideal for walking.
There are flights from most major airports to Palma and you will be transferred to Port Soller from the airport. We will quote you from the nearest airport to you, but dependent on flight days and times, we may advise different airports at the time of reservation - but the choice is yours. On each Majorca holiday the grade of walking.is moderate .
On the moderate walks - 8/9miles - we ascend and descend at least once per day - up to 300 metres but generally over an hour and a half. Pace is critical - we dont rush, there's too much to see, but we do stride out where it is possible. Underfoot conditions in Majorca can be stony - it is limestone country after all - and we take care on these sections.
Jane McMahon – Majorca April 2017
I just wanted to let you know my husband how very much and I enjoyed our trip in Majorca last week, with Ian Cartwright as our guide.
We don't really have walking holidays in New York State that we know of, so we did not know what to expect. I just keep telling people we discovered paradise. Ian was wonderful, we would not have changed a thing. He was knowledgeable, kept as challenged but always aware of individual abilities.
Each walk was different, most times off the "touristy" paths, and each walk was magical. And he always knew of a perfect time and location for café con leche. We are already talking about another journey to walk with you again. Thank you again for making our vacation truly memorable!
Regards, Jane McMahon

The hotel was excellent, I was in the annex & the room was lovely & big & clean. Hotel staff was really friendly & were always happy to help with anything, the food was excellent. Good choice of food available everyday & with it being a buffet you could have as much or as little as you liked 7 you got to try everything!!
Jill was an excellent leader. Brilliant knowledge of the area was always on hand to help anyone who needed it & a great sense of humour. This is the 2nd Secret hills holiday I’ve been on & I’ve nothing but praise.
Majorca was a beautiful destination, hot weather, stunning scenery, great walks brilliantly lead by Jill, cakes & beer always managed to be found at the end of a hard day, and Jill knew all the best places!!! Hotel was great. Spent the week with a fantastic bunch of people
Fiona Morag Macdonald
Cake was on the agenda, so I could not complain!
Walking with a leader takes the strain off things, so you can spend time enjoying the walks and views without map reading. It's also good to have the local knowledge from the leader also.
The week was great, from the hotel, to good food and wine, good company and fantastic walking, led by a great host
Michael Carter Majorca October 2016
The hotel food hosted a regular buffet offered lots of choice with opportunity to sample Mallorcan food on one evening. I have been on many guided walking holidays and this ranked among the best I have experienced
Marilyn Squires October 2016
It was a lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Walks were well selected, two were walks I would never had had the chance to do independently
Linda Campbell Majorca April 2015
The holiday not only met, but exceeded our expectations. We particularly enjoyed our three nights eating out, and it was evident you had gone to a lot of trouble to make this holiday successful.
Dear Alan, Just a short note to thank you and your team, Jill and Tom, for a wonderful walking holiday in Majorca.
Everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was a wonderful combination of great walking, great guiding and a fantastic location. I think it is fair to say that we will be back next year with another group.
Thank you again for a memorable holiday.
Regards, Richard Killen

Trudy Wibberley Majorca April 2014
Once again, a brilliant holiday with Secret Hills. Our guides Alan Gill and Eileen made sure everybody in our group had a good time. All I would say is to any other single ladies (or gents) out there thinking of doing a walking holiday on their own for the first time then Secret Hills are the people to do it with. Everything from the minute you leave your front door to the time you get back is catered for. Allen and his team are there to make sure you have the best time ever and all walks are catered to suit your own personal capabilities so do not worry if you think you may not be able to keep up or may not fit in with the group. Take it from me, you will, and like me, once you have experienced a Secret Hills walking holiday you will be straight back on the net looking to book your next one. Thanks once again Alan Gill and Eileen for a fab time.
Majorca - the place
Majorca’s Serra de Tramuntana mountains are a great walking experience—on this holiday island renowned for it’s sun, sand and sangria, there is an area of peace and tranquillity, where the walking is superb. 90 km long and 15 km wide, the Tramuntana range gives a vast range of walking possibilities. The coast line is also very rugged, and this affords us tremendous sea views as well as mountain scenery. The limestone allows deep gorges and waterfalls, yet there are pine forests as well.
Our walking is moderate - with some strenuous stretches, all done at a manageable pace. We stay in Port Soller. hotels with excellent rooms and a short walk from the town centre. We eat in the hotels dining room—a wide choice of international food for your delight.
