Meet New Friends

Its all about meeting new friends. Each holiday is designed to be a friendly, relaxed and stress free occasion. Talking is as important as walking or discovering on these holidays. We don't go in for disco's, we may use an event that is taking place in the area we are in to boost the weekends activities - but its good, old fashioned chat that makes our short breaks successful. "Make new friends that turn into old friends - that's our motto." You might be surprised by what fun you’ll have with people who are older or younger than you during a holiday with us, and that’s exactly the sort of atmosphere we encourage; people find it very rewarding. It doesn’t matter what your reasons for traveling with us are, we’ve had people who are single, divorced or widowed, people who have partners that are unable to travel, and people who can’t holiday with their friends anymore as they’ve all got married themselves. There are people who want to make friends, see sights, and experience something completely new. Whatever your reason, we’ll welcome you with open arms and our friendly hosts will help you to get the most out of your holiday. Don't worry if this is the first time you have ventured to join a group holiday - its always a bit daunting - but we will look after you, ensure that you get used to being amongst friends again - trust us to to get you back into the swing of things" Oh - by the way - its not a dating agency - over the years we have had people meet and fall in love - but that's just chance. Our aim is that you make like minded friends - just relax and enjoy. -

Flights and Transfers

Verona is the best airport to access Val di Fassa.  We will transfer you by minibus to the hotel, and return, provided you catch the early morning flights from the UK.

Arranged transfers by us

It is 121 miles to our hotel in Val di Fassa, deep into the Dolomites and we arrange a mini bus transfer PROVIDED you travel to arrive at Verona before 2pm.  This is included in your holiday price, as is the return transfer,

Should you choose a flight that is later, then you need to transfer independently by bus and train, Take a bus to Verona rail station ( your cost) and then a train to Bolzano (train fare included  and arranged by us). From Bolzano station, a frequent bus service takes you to your hotel.(again your cost)

Flight supplements from regional airports

There may be flight supplements dependent on the airport you fly from, our holiday prices are based upon London Gatwick flights - so regional airport flight prices will carry a flight supplement, which will be quoted for you. Flight prices also change based upon how late you book with us.  We will always quote you to your exact specification and give you options on flights. It is very often cost effective to fly from your regional airport and reduces the cost of travel to Londoon Gatwick, and possible overnight costs.

An alternative flight destination is Venice - which may be less expensive - Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol flights go direct to Verona. You take the shuttle bus to Venice station and take the one hour train journey to Verona station to meet the group assembling to travel to Val di Fassa, or if there are four people of more then we will arrange a return minibus/taxi transfer direct from the airport to the hotel..

Morning flights from London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Manchester, East Midlands  and Birmingham. Late afternoon and Evening flights from London Stansted, Edinburgh, Bristol, Newcastle Glasgow

    The area for good walking

Val di Fassa offers access to a wide selection of walking with many side valleys to explore as well as high passes and Dolomite peaks. Away from the higher levels there are walks such as one which explores a labyrinth of rock caused by an ancient landslide, which is featured at the end of “The Big Four” written by Agatha Christie giving the walk the name of Agatha Christie Way. There are also beautifully coloured lakes enhanced by the mirror reflections of the mountains against a backdrop of pine forests adding texture to the mountainsides. Above the forests are meadowlands where cowbells are often not too far away, and these extend to the base of the stony spires of the Dolomites which you can walk at the foot of, high above the valleys below. The walking at this level is above 2000m with some trails rising over 2300m offering exceptional views not only of the valleys but also of the 3000m high peaks around you. Cable cars ascend from many of the villages to access the higher levels of the Dolomites and these often have bars and restaurants where you can enjoy spectacular views over an alpine lunch. For example from Vigo di Fassa you can take the cable car to Ciampedie where there are several delightful restaurants to choose from. There are also quiet and picturesque riverside walks if you choose to go by foot between the cable cars or villages.

    Prevailing weather conditions

Tenerife in January will have a mix of sunny, warm weather- but there could be cloudy conditions and some high level mist- and be prepared for a shower or two- it is not a green paradise for no reason.

    Exclusions

Although our leaders are well trained  and experienced in dealing  with different capabilities of our walking clients, if they have any concerns about  any clients ability or suitability to undertake safely any walking activity we plan or they feel that participation of an individual may affect the groups safety and cohesion, then they have full permission to exclude that client from an activity.

They will try at all times to provide an alternative suggested activity, though this may involve the client in additional local cost.

We rarely have to enforce this above recommendation, but it is a sensible and necessary protection for the individual client, the group and the leaders.

The Local area- Val di Fassa and surrounds

Val di Fassa is located in northern Italy and is amongst the mighty spires of the Dolomites. The valley is in Ladinia, a cultural area where the local Ladin language is still the most commonly spoken language and the Ladinia flag can often be seen. Italian is also spoken here, as is German due to the valley’s close proximity to the Italian province of Südtirol, where German is the native language. The Val di Fassa valley is the setting for a number of villages each with their own charm stretching from Moena to the south up to Canazei to the north. There are a vast number of chair lifts and cable cars to elevate you quickly to the main walking areas.

We stay in Vigo di Fassa (1382 m.) situated below the Catinaccio group.

Visitors will be enchanted by the beauty of these mountains which can also be easily reached from the town centre by using the modern cable-car which leads directly to the panoramic plateau of Ciampedìe which is the starting point for many paths and mountain routes during summer time to then become the winter paradise of the Catinaccio ski area throughout the winter season.

Vigo became an important cross roads, when in 1895 the first section of the Dolomites’ road was completed: Nova Levante – Passo di Costalunga – Vigo di Fassa, opening up the Fassa Valley once and for all to European tourism.

The important villages which come under Vigo are Vallongia, Tamion and San Giovanni. San Giovanni is the headquarters of the Ladin Cultural Centre and the Ladin Museum of Fassa, which through publications, temporary and permanent exhibitions helps to preserve and enhance the more important aspects of Ladin culture.

    Alan Mountain -Dolomites June 2018

Walking in Dolomites area of (Val di Fassa ) June 2018.

This was my first time at walking in the high mountains for a very long time .

And I was definitely not disappointed . Getting to the High destination by Plane, Train, and Mini bus is all part of the Adventure and Journey . Our Group consisted of English Welsh , Irish and American . We laughed and had great fun all week .

The family run Hotel was perfect in every way . And pulling back the Bedroom curtains in the morning to see those archetypal Dolomite razor cut Mountains was breathtaking .

The walks were different every day and you never got tired of the amazing views and Rugged surroundings .

The morning at Blue Lagoon was yet another great photo session .

Our English guide was superb, and attentive to all the groups needs .

The Local people in the Village bars and Restaurants were great. Speaking English German and Italian .

Also every stop at a Refuge House for lunch up the Mountains was a treat . Some had extensive menu’s and some had what ever local provisions were in season . I found myself really liking the Fennel Bread , (never tasted that before) . Another first for me was seeing a Marmot !.

I would recommend this holiday for an adventure and for people who are fed up with Beach holidays .

    What Others Said...

The walks were a good length, some more challenging than others both the Leader and “Back marker” did a first rate job. The guided walking experience was organised extremely well. Having a packed lunch arranged was a bonus as finding time to shop each morning can be tedious! The icing on the cake was the selection of restaurants that were organised for each night. All having great food and at fair prices.
