Lanzarote

Warning: This holiday has passed. Please return to the holidays section to view all current and future holidays.

This island which has been destroyed so many times by its volcanos elemental forces and were reborn again , shows some of the most incredible landscapes you may find on this planet, opulent vegetation next to bizarre forms of petrified lava fields .The island is often referred to as the 'island of the 1,000 volcanoes' yet it is actually the least mountainous Canarian Island however offers unbelievable walking opportunities with great diversity.?

The famous Spanish artist, sculptor, architect and activist Cesar Manrique was from Lanzarote and of which his art and legacy has left an indelible mark on the island. Lanzarotes uniform white buildings and either green or blue shutters and doors and no high rise buildings were his models of intervention to safeguard the islands natural heritage and culture. His pieces of sculpture and art are dotted across the island with the notable EL Diablo statue of the Timanfaya National Park.?

Because of its position Lanzarote boasts good year long warmth which is why it makes a great place to visit during our UK winters. Lanzarote has its own micro climate and because it lies lower than the more mountainous islands to the west it has less rainfall, making it appear arid and desert like in many parts. Due to this Lanzarote offers little shade and it can be windy and occasionally lies in the path of dust storms from Sahara Desert.

Lanzarote on a detailed map, parts of it look unfit for human habitation, yet the island is ideal, and quite frankly unforgettable for human exploration which makes this a fantastic choice of holiday and why we are offering you the opportunity to see it for yourself.

Our guided walks programme covers the most important natural areas of Lanzarote. We are careful to preserve the fragile nature of the terrain. Walking is graded moderate- but for walker fit clients, it perhaps needs to be graded easy to moderate walking. We walk for 5.5 - 6 hours per day

.We will also have a wine tour - 10 euros per person extra - and sample the unique wine of this island - vines grown in volcanic soil must have a diffeernt taste and bouquet.

Flights and Transfers

Flights to Lanzarote are from most UK regional airports. We will quote you from your nearest or most suitable airport.

We will transfer you from the airport to your hotel and return you to the airport on the departure day.**

A basic flight price is included in our pricing for this holiday - based upon flights form Gatwick- local airport flights will attract a small additional flight supplement.

The advatages in cost and convenience however far out weigh any additional local airport supplement- and to support the environment - reducing the overall carbon footprint is good policy.

**Transfers – as you have the choice of airports and flight times- where this is practical – we arrange transfers that accumulate clients together for onward transfer to hotels/and return to the airport.

This can mean small delays whilst we accumulate clients together for group transfers- un avoidable- and this policy impacts favourably on the cost of your holiday.

Should you want an individual transfer- to avoid any waiting time - then there will be an additional charge for this

Deal

No Deal

Will flights still operate?

Yes

If a deal is agreed then we will be in a transition period, meaning everything will stay the same until the end of December 2020 and flights will continue as normal.

Yes

Under existing contingency arrangements in a no-deal scenario the European Commission has said that UK airlines will still be able to operate flights between the UK and the EU under contingency legislation. The UK Government has offered similar assurances for EU airlines.

Will I need a visa to travel to the EU after Brexit?

No

The European Parliament has confirmed that UK travellers won’t need a visa to travel to the EU after Brexit for short-term business or leisure trips, even if the UK leaves without a deal.

No

The European Parliament has confirmed that UK travellers won’t need a visa to travel to the EU after Brexit for short-term business or leisure trips, even if the UK leaves without a deal.

Will I still be able to use my current passport?

Yes, although we advise following the no deal advice too.

Yes, although you may need to renew your British   passport earlier if you are travelling after brexit

The UK Government recommends that you have six months left on your passport on the date of your arrival in an EU country.

If you renewed a 10-year adult passport before it expired, extra months may have been added to your passport’s expiry date. These extra months over 10 years will not count towards the 6 months that must be remaining. The UK Government has published a website tool to check the validity of your passport under these rules.

Will my EHIC card still be valid?

ABTA has always advised holidaymakers and business travellers to make sure they have appropriate travel insurance, whether they have an EHIC card or not, as there are limitations to EHIC.

UK registered EHICs will no longer be valid.  ABTA has always advised holidaymakers and business travellers to make sure they have appropriate travel insurance, whether they have an EHIC card or not, as there are limitations to EHIC.

Can I still use my current driving licence?

As long as you have a full UK driving licence, you don’t currently need an additional licence to drive in the EU. As it is   not yet clear whether there will be a deal or not, we advise following the no deal advice.

Depending on your destination, and the length of your stay, UK licence holders looking to drive in the EU after 31 January 2020 may need to apply for an International Driving Permit.

Full details about International Driving Permits, including what permit you need for each country can be found at gov.uk

If required, International Driving Permits cost £5.50 and are available directly from the Post Office, you can find your nearest branch here

Data roaming

Under EU rules, the cost of making calls, sending messages or using the internet on your phone in the EU is the same in the UK.

If the UK leaves without a deal these rules will no longer apply – however, some UK companies have said they may continue to offer this benefit to their customers.

Gill and Paul  Ostler - February/March 2020

I have been to lanzorote five times before once on a a holiday and the other times doing sports or supporting others with their sport.
So going again on a walking holiday was a new experience. My first thoughts were ,where on earth do you walk there as I had travelled on most of the island roads and new it very well.
We had a excellent local guide to support Jill. He was very knowledgeable about the birds flowers and landscapes and very passionate about his island.
Our first walk started in the north of the island with stunning scenery.
Another day went over by ferry to the little island on the north of lanzorote, a place I hadn't been. Another stunning place with a beautiful beach and a volcano to climb.
Each day the walks started further south till the last walk ended up in the south on another lovely beach.
I have enjoyed  the different walks the spectacular scenery and I would recommend lanzorote to any one who enjoys a total different landscape from any where else in the world and lovely weather .
Hope this finds you well.
Kind regards.
Gill Ostler
