Portugal's Douro Valley

THE DOURO VALLEY - HEART OF GOLD

Come and discover the hidden beauty of this area with some magnificent walking along local trails. We meet in Porto and have a scenic drive along the river to our accommodation where we spend 5 nights in a beautifully restored village house before moving eastwards for 2 nights in a hotel perched high above the river on the Spanish border. Once we leave Porto this tour will keep you well away from the tourist spots and allow you the chance to discover the true Douro Valley and its heart of Gold!

Walking is along good tracks but the terrain is undulating!

The Douro Valley could as easily be called the enchanted valley, such is the beauty and magic that its landscapes offer.

Departing from Porto, where the river flows into the sea and where the Douro wines (table wines and Port wine), produced on its hillsides, also end up, there are various ways to get to know this cultural landscape, listed as a World Heritage Site: by road, by train, on a cruise boat and even by helicopter. None will leave you indifferent.

Following a route between the viewpoints that offer the best vistas, you need to cross the river from north to south and back again. But along the way you can admire breathtaking landscapes over the river and visit vineyards, towns and villages until you reach Miranda do Douro, the point at which the river enters Portugal.

What Others Said...

Shropshire Hills Feb 21 2014 Anyway I really, really enjoyed the weekend. I love the way you have organised the walks, the info and the flexibility.I can not complain about the hotel, the rooms, food and service were all perfectly adequate and pleasant.  I would happily stay there again. Although the walks were very lovely and in part breath taking, the company was  the best part of the weekend.  Paul and yourself were well informed  and lovely company. My fellow walkers were also a  pleasure to be around. Thank you for a good weekend and I will see you later in the year, as  I am already looking at when I can make my next booking.kind regards Cheryl Parker
