Offa's 60 - Offa's Dyke trail- Shropshire, Herefordshireand Powys
Offa's Dyke Path- Shropshire, Herefordshire and Powys
Following the English/Welsh border for 177 miles alongside the 8th Century Offa's Dyke this National Trail takes you through changing landscapes offering amazing opportunities to catch a view of our native wildlife.
Discover a borderland full of history, with castles, canals, spectacular bridges and bustling market towns. Watch out for badgers and birds of prey
For our guided walking programme - we have split the Offa's Dyke path into three sections.
The north form Prestatyn to Trefonen near Welshpool and Oswestry. The middle section from Refonen to Kington and the Southern section from Kington to Sedbury cliffs
Offa’s Dyke Path -. It is named after, and often follows, the spectacular Dyke King Offa ordered to be constructed in the 8th century, probably to divide his Kingdom of Mercia from rival kingdoms in what is now Wales
The Trail, which was opened in the summer of 1971, links Sedbury Cliffs near Chepstow on the banks of the Severn estuary with the coastal town of Prestatyn on the shores of the Irish sea. It passes through no less than eight different counties and crosses the border between England and Wales over 20 times. The Trail explores the tranquil Marches (as the border region is known) and passes through the Brecon Beacons National Park on the spectacular Hatterrall Ridge. In addition it links no less than three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty – the Wye Valley, the Shropshire Hills and the Clwydian Range / Dee Valley.
It is a fantastic walk- plenty of challenges, wonderful scenery, much history youwould expect this as the path/dyke forms the border region dividing England and Wales - friends now but historically fiesty enemies.
The Offa's pathway now unites two countries - and we plan to ensure that you get a superb flavour of the diverse culture and character of a sometimes wild and lonely region.
