Itinerary

We fly into Split airport and are transferred to the hotel, first to the Split ferry terminal, then by boat to Supertar on Brac island. We will be picked up at the Brac ferry terminal and taken to our hotel.

Guided walking for solos and singles in Croatia

We accumulate passengers together at the airport for onward travel- as flights from UK regional airports generally arrive in close proximity. Our guides will meet you at the airport.

The first afternoon and evening is a settling in day- we can explore the town and beach areas before going for dinner in Supertar.

Walking is for five days with one day free.

Flights and Transfers

You purchase your own flights for this holiday.

The price you pay to Secret Hills Walking Holidays is a land only price.

When you reserve your flight, our policy is to enable you to fly from your local airport, wherever possible.

This means that clients will arrive at the destination airport at different times and we will arrange the onward transfers to the hotel, and return you to the airport at the end of the holidays.

The closest airport is Split which welcomes regular non-stop flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Manchester, Bristol, Glasgow, Newcastle and Belfast

From Split, you will be collected from the airport and transferred to the port (35 minutes) for your ferry to Brac which takes 40 minutes. You will then be transferred to your hotel.**

Flight prices also change based upon how late you book with us.  We will always quote you to your exact specification and give you options on flights.

Note – in order to maximise the transfers that we organise, we will arrange for a transfer with others. This will meet the morning UK departures to Split.

This can mean small delays whilst we accumulate clients together for group transfers- un avoidable- and this policy impacts favourably on the cost of your holiday.

Should you arrive later than the morning flights, then we will still organise your transfer, but there will be an additional £40 transfer charge per person as this will be an separate transfer arrangement.

Note- we always try to advise that you fly from your local airport- this is one of the unique selling points for our holidays.

The advantages in cost and convenience however far out weigh any additional local airport supplement- and to support the environment – reducing the overall carbon footprint is good policy.

Should you want an individual transfer- to avoid any waiting time – then there will be an additional charge for this

Tour Details

The routes we use are mostly along tracks or rural roads; sometimes on paths (some can be rocky due to characteristic limestone). Paths are generally easy to follow and sometimes waymarked and/or signposted however this is variable.

If required, Secret Hills Walking will provide two walks daily – one being less mileage and slower paced, the main walk will be as described below.

The Adriatic sea is an ever present – whether walking along side it or viewing it from a distance.

There are many superb viewing points along our routes. A highlight is the highest mountain in all the Croatin islands – Vidove Gora.

We are excited that our Slovenian guiding company – we have worked with them for 12 years – are leading our walks in Croatia.

Guided walking for solos and singles in CroatiaSample walks include

-a varied circular walk providing an excellent introduction to the villages and landscapes of Brač. As you follow the coastline there are several swimming opportunities to enjoy in the vivid clear blue water. Pass through unspoilt villages surrounding natural harbours as you make your way back to the lovely town of Supertar.

-This superb walk takes you to the coastal village of Bol via the highest point in the Adriatic Islands known as Vidova Gora. For a while you join the well waymarked ‘Educational Trail’ passing various information boards (in both Croatian & English), then a lovely path takes you up to the edge of the limestone escarpment and on to the summit with its breath-taking views to Hvar and beyond.

-From Sutivan over St Roko hill to Junceravan Plateau along the rocky roads, through thick pine woods.to the fishing village of Bobovisca on the sea. This village is quiet and will remind us of a time past on Brac. We then walk on to  Lozisa with its superb church and tower.

We return to Sutivan  through Veliki Dolac Canyon and rough soil tracks dirt tracks with numerous olive groves.

– Along the Supertar coast and on to Mirca village before taking the Olive grove trail high into the islands inland. Back for lunch in Mirca – hams, cheeses, olives, wine and water. Then back along the coast to the hotel- plenty of swimming in the sandy bays.Guided walking for solos and singles in Croatia

– a lovely coastal walk from Puicjsca to high ground above the port/town with magnificent views. Then along to the old lighthouse for swimming opportunities.

– the monastery of Blaca forms the centre piece of this walk – then again a walk down lovely paths to the bay below. Return to our transport on different high level paths.

  • opportunity to visit Split on your day off walking
  •  our relaxed, social approach

Grades and Difficulty

Walking on Brac is a delight. Limestone predominantly on our paths, generally good underfoot, but some stony sections with loose limestone stones.

Paths well marked but we do venture off these info woodland.

No major ascents or descents but the land is not flat and we do walk from the coast inland – generally uphill and descend back to the coast.

The walks on this trip are rated as Moderate but each day involves a fair amount of ascent and descent. The trip requires a reasonable amount of fitness, ideally with previous hill walking experience.

You need good walking footwear, preferably waterproof walking boots with good soles for protection. You may find that walking poles will aid your enjoyment of this land.

Exclusions

Although our leaders are well trained and experienced in dealing with different capabilities of our walking clients, if they have any concerns about any clients ability or suitability to undertake safely any walking activity we plan or they feel that participation of an individual may affect the groups safety and cohesion, then they have full permission to exclude that client from an activity.

They will try at all times to provide an alternative suggested activity, though this may involve the client in additional local cost.

We rarely have to enforce this above recommendation, but it is a sensible and necessary protection for the individual client, the group and the leaders.

Meet New Friends

It’s all about meeting new friends. Each holiday is designed to be a friendly, relaxed and stress-free occasion. Talking is as important as walking on Secret Hills Walking Holidays. We don’t go in for discos, we may use an event that is taking place in the area we are in to boost the weekend’s activities – but it’s good, old fashioned chat that makes our short breaks successful.

“Make new friends that turn into old friends” – that’s our motto.

You might be surprised by what fun you’ll have with people who are older or younger than you during a holiday with us, and that’s exactly the sort of atmosphere we encourage; people find it very rewarding. It doesn’t matter what your reasons for travelling with us are, we’ve had people who are single, divorced or widowed, people who have partners that are unable to travel, and people who can’t holiday with their friends anymore as they’ve all got married themselves. There are people who want to make friends, see sights, and experience something completely new. Whatever your reason, we’ll welcome you with open arms and our friendly hosts will help you to get the most out of your holiday.

Don’t worry if this is the first time you have ventured to join a group holiday – its always a bit daunting – but we will look after you and ensure that you get used to being amongst friends again. Trust us to to get you back into the swing of things.

Oh – by the way – it’s not a dating agency – over the years we have had people meet and fall in love – but that’s just chance. Our aim is that you make like-minded friends – just relax and enjoy.

Just arrive and enjoy.

Great Reasons to Join us

There are other walking holiday companies that cover Europe but we believe we offer the best value for many reasons….

  • We specialise in organising guided walking holidays for singles and solo travellers
  • We are a small friendly company
  • We have a loyal customer base who return again and again (so we must be doing something right) – read our testimonials page on the website
  • We offer a lot of flexibility – you can stay extra nights which we are happy to organise for you. We are also very flexible on the walks we provide, adapting to suit walkers and weather conditions
  • Our walk leading is second to none. Unlike some other large Walking Companies, we use LOCAL leaders who live in the area and who love their surroundings. They have expert knowledge of everything you need to know to make an area come alive.
  • You are safe in our hands – our guides are experts, fully qualified in first aid. Also, because of their local knowledge of the hills, they can respond to any situation that might for example demand cutting short a route. They don’t need to consult maps – they know the hills intimately.
  • Our leaders are all easy-going, genuinely sociable people who want to ensure that you have the best time you can with the rest of the group. They make the weekend fun by engaging with all members of a group, and ensuring that everyone feels part of the group experience.
  • We give great value for money. Because we recognise that lots of walkers holiday on their own, we have negotiated no single supplement deals with all our hotels to ensure the best possible deal.
  • We always use good hotels, selected and constantly reviewed.
  • We have smaller groups than some of the larger walking companies because we believe the social experience is much better in a smaller group. People can talk to everyone, especially at dinner where you can all sit at one table in a small group. Our numbers vary from holiday to holiday but an average group size would be 8-12.

Location

Supetar is the main town on Brac, sort of its capital. It is only one hour away from Split – the centre of Dalmatia – 45 min by ferry or 20 min by catamaran. Twenty kilometers from Supetar there is an airport, one of the few on the Croatian islands. Solos and Singles Guided walking in Croatia

The main reason for such a large number of tourists visiting Croatia is primarily its crystal blue sea. You can enjoy swimming from the beginning of May to the end of October. The beaches of Supetar are lined with kilometres of pinewoods providing shelter from the summer sun. The beaches are sandy or rocky; you can choose which you like. There are deck chairs, bicycles, windsurfing boards, scooters and other equipment to rent. . Everybody can find a corner to suit his own taste, avoiding crowds and jams.

Brac island is only 15 miles wide and 50 miles long so we can visit most of the good areas on this holiday.

It is an ancient civilisation, but has had a peaceful existence generally, though some activity in world war two is evident.

The population swells by 200 % in the tourist seasons- seasonal workers and holiday makers.

We so enjoyed this holiday and it made us realise yet again how fortunate we were to have found Alan and Secret Hills many years ago . The sun was a real tonic, the Hotel Villla Adriatica was superb, the guides were excellent and extremely caring, and the walking was just what was required. The meals taken in local restaurants were not for the faint hearted  but we quickly adapted to Brac generous portions and everyone found something of interest. It was also good to meet up with old friends from previous walks, and indeed make some new ones, who we look forward to catching up with again sometime in the future.

Brac, Croatia – Oct 2019:  This was a new trip organised by Secret Hills and it didn’t disappoint.  I would say the walks were slightly gentler than other Secret Hills trips I’ve been on, in that there were no steep climbs and the paths were really nice, which made for a wonderful week exploring Brac island.  Katya and Mica, our guides, were very knowledgeable and informative about the history of the island, they worked hard to offer a variety of walks and found some wonderful lunch spots to enjoy the local food, wine and grappa.  As with all Secret Hills trips the walking was quite varied incorporating beaches, olive groves and some stunning views across to both other islands and the mainland. I particularly enjoyed the after walk dip in the sea, cool but refreshing! The mid-week break day offered the opportunity to visit more of Brac island, take the ferry to explore Split or, as I did, just enjoy the local town of Supetar.  The small boutique hotel was difficult to fault, the breakfast was very nice and the staff were so accommodating and friendly.  It was the last week in the season so things were starting to shut  down locally, I enjoyed having less bustle, but it did mean there were some limitations on eateries that would take our group size.   That said, as ever, the team did a great job in finding them and we ate and drank very well!  Another wonderful trip and another wonderful group of people thanks Alan.
