You matter to us & we promise to provide you with a superb walking & social holiday, tailored specifically to your needs. We provide walking holidays for walkers & as walkers ourselves, we appreciate & understand the requirements of a walking holiday.
The Lake District is England’s only true mountain area. It has the most beautiful scenery in the land, with its bewitching mix of rugged mountains, deep gylls, shimmering lakes, bouncing waterfalls and attractive stone-built villages. Our solos guided walking holiday introduces you to this spectacular countryside. This unique landscape, is one of National Geographic’s top ten ‘must-see’ destinations in the world.
Our speciality is guided walking holidays for solos and singles in magnificent locations across the UK and Europe. Unlike many other walking companies which offer solos holidays as an extra, we are unique in that we only deal in solos guided walking. We also design bespoke holidays for special groups.
We stay at the Newby Bridge Hotel
Newby Bridge Hotel really is “your home away from home”. The hotel is a walkers paradise with many varied walks from the door. The hotel also has a drying room should you get wet clothes!!
The hotel has leisure facilities with a lovely swimming pool.
Wifi is available and is free in the hotel in your rooms, the lounge and bar areas.
We eat dinner at the hotel each night.
Lunch is packed on this holiday.
There are other walking holiday companies that cover the countryside but we believe we offer the best value for many reasons….
By car – junction 36 of M6 – take road to Barrow after 4 miles. After 10 miles Newby Bridge Hotel is on the left on a sharp bend
By rail – to Windermere – take a taxi to hotel, though there are buses too.
This holiday explores the lovely areas set back from Lake Windermere- it rarely touches the actual lake side – for the beauty of this area lies in the hinterland of the lake. Low fells rise from the shores, and these form the backdrop to the higher fells and peaks. There are hidden gems along our way- and we walk for the most part on tracks that are rarely used by the more widely used walking itineraries
We meet at 2 pm on Sunday afternoon- and we walk for about 2.5 hours in the areas around Newby Bridge- to get to know one another and begin the holiday making new friends
The walking programme for the Windermere Ring is three full days and the last day is 5 hours of walking finishing at the hotel.
Paths on this Lake District holiday – walking the Lake Districts low fells and lakes – are mostly well marked and walked but can have rough and uneven with stony parts to them. These we take carefully, bearing in mind your safety at all times.
You need good walking footwear, preferably waterproof walking boots with good soles for protection.
Whilst we do not ascend the high fells- we will ascend and descend on our walks – up to a total in a day of 750 metres. So, there will be some short, sharp ascents and descents.
The walking programme for the Windermere Ring is three full days and the last day is 5 hours of walking finishing at the hotel.

Its all about meeting new friends. Each holiday is designed to be a friendly, relaxed and stress free occasion. Talking is as important as walking on Secrethills Walking Holidays. We don’t go in for discos, we may use an event that is taking place in the area we are in to boost the weekends activities – but its good, old fashioned chat that makes our short breaks successful.
“Make new friends that turn into old friends” – that’s our motto.
You might be surprised by what fun you’ll have with people who are older or younger than you during a holiday with us, and that’s exactly the sort of atmosphere we encourage; people find it very rewarding. It doesn’t matter what your reasons for traveling with us are, we’ve had people who are single, divorced or widowed, people who have partners that are unable to travel, and people who can’t holiday with their friends anymore as they’ve all got married themselves. There are people who want to make friends, see sights, and experience something completely new. Whatever your reason, we’ll welcome you with open arms and our friendly hosts will help you to get the most out of your holiday.
Don’t worry if this is the first time you have ventured to join a group holiday – its always a bit daunting – but we will look after you and ensure that you get used to being amongst friends again. Trust us to to get you back into the swing of things.
Oh – by the way – its not a dating agency – over the years we have had people meet and fall in love – but that’s just chance. Our aim is that you make like minded friends – just relax and enjoy.
Just arrive and enjoy.

Lake Windermere – the iconic lake that symbolises the essence of the Lake District. It is surrounded by some magnificent countryside – craggy hills, tumbling streams.
In the South Lakes valleys around Lake Windermere, narrow winding lanes are bounded with dry stone walls and hedgerows. This walk meanders through deciduous woodlands, climbs away from the lake on several occasions – but the glimpse of the lake is never far away.
Gem like smaller lakes and musically flowing becks are overlooked by the southern fells and the lofty Langdale Pikes
Our walk takes us to the shore but mostly meanders over low fells close by, affording fabulous views across the lake into the central fells.
Strictly speaking, Windermere lake is just called Winder”mere”, with “mere” meaning a lake that is broad in relation to its depth. However here, to avoid confusion with Windermere Village, we refer to it as Windermere lake. The long thin lake itself forms the central spine of the Windermere lake area of the Lake District. This area is also known as the South Lakes.
I loved the holiday. Alvina once again was an amazing leader, planning the route according to everyone’s ability. The weather wasn’t great but to have a positive energetic leader encouraged us all…the company of the group and leaders made it a hugely enjoyable holiday. Hotel was great…food was great…amazing jacuzzi. The organisation was great. I would reserve another holiday.
The hotel was comfortable with good food and pleasant staff. Alvina and Gill lead the walks competently, gauging the mood of the group accurately and making adjustments to the planned routes to accommodate weather conditions. A very interesting group of people meant there was always something to talk about!
Very well organised. Good scenic routes. It was good to have the option of more challenging walks on the last day. I enjoyed the company of the group.
