Margaret Stokes – of South Dorset Ramblers penned this lovely poem.
We hope you enjoy it.
DIVNO” (AMAZING!)
How many times can DIVNO apply
On a Montenegrin walkabout?
I’ll tell you now of what comes to mind.
What I miss, you’ll have to live without.
Chaos at Bristol, which came as a shock.
EasyJet passengers running amok.
We left it behind us, along with the rain
But, to see Montenegro, I’d do it again.
Driving up mountains and squeezing our glutes:
Trekking back down in our trusty old boots.
Zigzags below us: above us, blue skies:
Cold beer at the end: a sight for sore eyes.
Jill and Pete’s efforts to keep us well fed,
Thwarted, at one point, it has to be said.
Tables outside, in a beautiful square.
‘Don’t know it’s name but, it’s just over there!’
Anecdotes flowing and stories to tell.
Everything stopped by the eight o’clock bell.
Finding the way in Kotor old city:
All shiny paths and oodles of kitties.
A Marija sandwich making me sag,
Almost too big to get in my bag.
Crossing Lake Skadar, enjoying the breeze
On a boat bearing doughnuts and honey and cheese.
Monastery garden: a nun heaving rocks.
(Maybe she’d done something unorthodox!)
Trying to squeeze past a stubborn old brute.
Not one of us but a donkey, en route!
Carafes of wine flowing freely for all
No wonder we Brits were having a ball.
Lapping of waves at the end of a trek,
Made some folk strip off and shout, “What the heck.”
No-one had cozzies but what did they care?
Splashing about in their best underwear.
Fabulous weather and company, too.
Magic created by all of the crew.
Thank you to all who have made it such fun.
Can’t wait to meet you again (in the sun!)
