My Slovenia- Alan Garner’s love for a special country.
17 years and 60 holidays later – yes, I can say that it is MY SLOVENIA.
Why you ask – MY – a big boast. Well, its how I think, the true feelings for a country of two million lovely people that always deliver for our clients.
So – what is delivered. Yes- the countryside is magnificent and I am always discovering more gems to share, the alpine feel – the absolute cleanliness of every part of the country you travel to, the irresistible mountain air.
Yet – it is the people that make the difference to me – always wanting to make sure your holiday is the best it can be – that’s old fashioned in todays world -service they know will help them grow as a country. It is their love of being independent after 300 years of subjugation under various regimes, their sense of pride in their nationality.
We use Slovenian guides – their commitment to excellence and cheerful nature, their love of the special countryside they live in and the way they care for our guests – means that our holidays do have a special” local” feel. Proud of their nation, determinedly seeking improvement to what they offer- they simply exude confidence and effectiveness- and we certainly succumb to their subtle but deadly humour.
The Slovenia countryside clearly offers a range of vistas from the high mountain peaks to the stunning alpine meadows- a riot of wildflowers in the May and June – and the deep gorges cut by glacial rivers. Waterfalls abound everywhere in the limestone plateau’s and the thrill of finding that mountain hut just before lunch – especially where you would never imagine them to be- and the magical food that appear- from goulashes, hearty soups and the lovely strudels – how do they do it?
Using a family-owned hotel gives us the best that Slovenian hospitality has to offer- the Tripic family are typical of hoteliers in Slovenia – proud of their excellent offering and keen to share with you their range of Slovenian food – and is there a better breakfast feast anywhere we go?
