Hotel was amazing with all the facilities, evening meals were slow in coming and at different times, the group were eating different meals e.g starters whi lst some of us were on our mains but overall the food choice was absolutely delicious and plenty of it.  Absolutely loved the Guided walking experience Our guides were fantastic, very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly to approach. It really made the holiday as it bonded the group as a whole. – Claire

The Hotel Marina was well situated. Food on offer was plentiful and very good. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the room I had in the annex was more than satisfactory for a walking holiday  I very much enjoyed the walking experience. The walks were excellent. I was impressed with the professional and knowledgable leaders, Jill and Pete who provided good information about the history of the area, and also their ability to assess the capabilities of group members, and encourage individuals to participate as appropriate in specific walks. The organisation of walks were good. Briefing sessions on each walk the night before; items required to bring for the walk; weather forecast information. The good taxi/bus transfers to specfic walks.  I would have no hesitation in reserving another holiday with Secret Hills Walking.    Probably in areas of Spain or the Balearic Islands.  Anne

“I had a truly wonderful experience with Secret Hills Walking. The Abbey Hotel was both comfortable and clean, with attentive staff who went out of their way to ensure my stay was peaceful and enjoyable. The meals were generous and service was consistently efficient.

The guided walks were the highlight—I loved the company of both the guides and fellow walkers. As a solo traveller, I wouldn’t have attempted these distances on my own, so the support and camaraderie made all the difference.

The holiday was well organised, even when my booking had a hiccup. Alan was especially helpful, and I appreciated the effort to arrange a station pickup.

I’ll definitely book again, likely in 2027, and I’m keen to explore the South Downs or any destination I haven’t yet walked. I’d also love to see walking holidays offered in the Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight.

A special mention to Ing and Gail—such a warm and gentle couple. Ing stepped in last minute and worked hard to ensure our routes were well planned, always checking in to see if we needed rest stops. Their care and dedication made the experience even more memorable.”

The hotel was nice and the staff extra-ordinally friendly and helpful. The food was good, yet the portions were far too big. There was enough room for the group to meet, talk, and get to know each other in a very pleasant atmosphere. I really enjoyed my stay. The guided walks were superb. Kelly and Janet are  really great guides, very knowledgable in many (even unexpected) areas and always friendly. Both of them have the ablility to help the group make decisions that suit everyone and motivate in  very subtle yet convincing ways. They shared their own enthusiasm for walking and Dorset and made all of us see the beauty of the area we walked in. Kelly shared a lot of time with us and distributed background information in the evenings and she made not only the walks but also our time together as a group really memorable. Great pubs for lunch time!

 Loved it both Kelly and Janet were brilliant and the scenery was stunning. Also lucky to have a great group of fellow travellers

Information on the hotel, the walks, directions to the hotel etc. was effective

Overall the quality of the hotel was very good – room, food, service. A small problem one evening with a loud wedding disco until midnight, which obviously delayed getting to sleep.

 The guided walks were well led by the 2 guides, who were very knowledgeable and easy to talk to.

Overall the holiday was well organised.

Hotels were very good. Meals at George Penrith excellent . Comfortable rooms

 Both guides were excellent but feel on day 4 ( Wednesday) we should have been split in to 2 groups so that faster walkers could have finished as it was we couldn’t complete the route

Definitely would  reserve another holiday with Secret Hills Walking?

Cumbria Way,  July 2025

I wanted to walk the Cumbria Way with a group and  I liked the being able to choose whether to have an extra night at the end (or beginning) or not. The online process was straightforward.  I enjoyed both hotels. I had stayed at the George Hotel previously. The guides were both knowledgeable . Mostly it was excellent. The only arrangement that wasn’t ideal was the transfer day where it would have been better to drive to Keswick first and then take the taxis to the start
